Intro to Burnout Velvet Fabric

Description

Join the Marlu Allan & Scott Stallard Costume Shop this season as they guide us through an introductory masterclass to burn-out velvet fabric. In this three-hour class, Shelby Joiner (Arizona Opera’s Painter/Dyer) will introduce how to create “etched” away designs in velvet and how to simultaneously 2 color dye velvet.

Each Masterclass purchased helps train an Arizona Opera Production Apprentice, enabling them to learn the skills and gain the experience necessary to begin their careers with confidence.

Most needed materials are covered in the Class WITH Kit fee. Please note this masterclass will be held virtually. Once you secure your spot by purchasing below, you will receive a Zoom link via email 24 hours prior to the event.

You will need a Hot Plate or a Stove for this class. 

Be sure you wear paint friendly clothes and work in an area that can get messy. Also, do NOT ever use items you eat with for dye projects!

Supplies Provided:

• 1 Applicator bottle with metal tip #9
• 1 oz liquid fiber etch
• 2 tbsp alter ego dye
• 1 tbsp alter ego fixative
• 3 tbsp dupont silk dye
• 0.5 yds sik velvet
• 3 tsp salt
• 1 tsp vinegar
• one 0.5 oz bottle for extra fiber etch
• one 1 oz container for alter ego dye
• one 1.5 oz container for dupont dye
• one 1 oz container for salt
• one 0.4 oz container for vinegar
• one 0.4 oz container for fixative
• 1 pair of gloves
• one 1 quart enamel pot
• one 12" wooden spoon
• 1 press cloth

Supplies Needed Not Provided in Kit:

• Iron
• Stove
• Clothes dryer
• Hair blow dryer

Additional Notes:

Please choose below if you would like to pick up your kit at the Arizona Opera Center (1636 N. Central Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85004) or have it shipped to you.

Shipping: Orders must be placed by February 7, 2021 in order to be shipped in time for the masterclass. The cost of shipping has already been calculated in the price below. You will not be charged an additional shipping fee.
Pick Up: Orders must be picked up from the Arizona Opera Center by February 10, 2021.
